The perspective of reality is lost when we view life from the range of a short experience.

--Ernest Holmes

How I feel depends on my perspective. If I look at my life from the perspective of lack and limitation, then that is what I will get. If I look at it from the perspective of gratitude, appreciation and abundance, I will feel confident and happy.

In the Science of Mind, we learn that persistent, constructive thought is the greatest power known and the most effective. It the visible effect in our lives is not what it should be, if we are unhappy, sick and poverty stricken, we know the remedy. The Truth is always the remedy and the Truth is that the law of liberty is the only real law. When we reverse the process of thought, the effect will be reversed. –Ernest Holmes

Being persistent in right thinking is an essential ingredient for success in anything I do.

The act of persevering, continued, patient effort

I never give up! I love being an artist and doing art, making things and sharing them with others. I work at marketing my art by asking for shows, applying for grants. I sell my art. I exhibit the work. This is exciting. I also deal with rejection every day, because I do not always get the response I want, and yet I keep on keeping on. I do possess the quality of perseverance.

Since the divine must hold us as some part of Its eternal perfection, we are fulfilling our destiny when we think of ourselves as already Divine and perfect. To contemplate that divine Life which is at the very center of everyman’s life—this is the very essence of mental healing.

–Ernest Holmes

Perfection is the way life is and the way life is not. There is nothing wrong because life is always the perfect outworking of the Law of the Universe. If I practice being nonjudgmental, then I can accept that all is Perfect.

This Original Life is Infinite. It is good. It is filled with peace. It is of the essence of purity. It is the ultimate of intelligence. It is power. It is Law. It is Life. It is in us. In that inner sanctuary of our own nature, hidden perhaps from objective gaze, “nestles the seed, perfection.” --Ernest Holmes

The peace, the stillness, the emptiness is all I really want. I do not always know this, because the gifts of the world are all so wonderful, I want it all! But without the Peace of Goddess, the wonders of the world are no fun at all!

We are immersed in an Infinite Creative Medium which, because of Its Nature, must create after the pattern our thought gives It. Jesus understood this, and in a few simple words laid down the law of life; “It is done unto you AS you believe.” --Ernest Holmes

My life becomes better and better as I release old negative patterns and replace them with positive attitudes like appreciation and gratitude.

  1. the will or ability to wait or endure without complaint
  2. steadiness, endurance, or perseverance in the performance of a task.

Today, I trust God to reveal to me whatever it is that I need. I know that this very present moment contains everything that I have always wanted. Each and every person I meet today is part of God’s plan for me. So, therefore, I am patient, knowing that all is well.

The Universe is impersonal. It gives alike to all. It is no respecter of persons. It values each alike. Its nature is to impart, ours to receive. When we stand in the light we cast a shadow across the pathway of our own experience. Emerson advises that we get our bloated nothingness out of the way of the divine circuits. –Ernest Holmes

Realizing that I am on my own pathway, unique to me, and that I can listen to the guidance of this pathway, makes life much simpler.

Extreme, compelling emotion, intense emotional drive or excitement; specif.,

Enthusiasm or fondness

Strong love or affection

The object of any strong desire or fondness

I have a passion for making art. I have a passion for making the right and perfect art for me to make. There is one unique expression of my own art which is free and individual and which comes out of my own divine center of creativity. I am passionate about expressing it.

To help those in need is indeed a great privilege. But the blind cannot lead the blind. We must awake to the realization that a divine Partnership has already been formed between the seen and the invisible.

–Ernest Holmes

No one is ever alone and no one ever accomplishes anything without the cooperation and partnership of others.

Faith, being a mental attitude, is according to law; and even though one doubts; he can overcome his doubts and create the desired faith, definitely. –Ernest Holmes

As a child, I learned to be shy and afraid. But as a young adult and throughout my art career, I have overcome obstacles, and one step at a time, I have accomplished many things I had never before thought possible.

The Divine Mind is Infinite. It contains all knowledge and wisdom, but, before It can reveal Its secrets, It must have an outlet. This outlet we shall be compelled to supply through our own receptive mentalities. –Ernest Holmes

I express myself in lots of ways, for example, the way I dress, the way I communicate; talking, writing, but one of my favorite creative outlets is my art!

When man makes a demand upon himself or upon the Universe which flows through the self, he is making a demand upon Original Mind and Original Energy. Thus his demand causes Original Mind and energy to produce certain specific things for him. Thus is a new creation produced by the same Creative force or Energy that produces all things. –Ernest Holmes

What makes an artwork original? Something that has not been done before, I would consider original. But I think on a more personal level it would be artwork that has been done by an artist who is in touch with and expressing her own unique vision.

While Jesus remained with the disciples, their faith for the most part was of the same essence as his, but as the years passed and his followers became more and more immersed in objective organization, they ceased to preach the necessity of a living faith. In fact, a few hundred years later, the Christians were teaching that the early “miracles” merely proved the divinity of Jesus. –Ernest Holmes

When I am working on a creative project sometimes I make a big mess. When I am making a quilt, I try lots of different fabrics—colors, experimenting, composing and improvising. When the design is complete I put it together with thread and sewing. Then, I embellish with paint, buttons, beads—layer upon layer until it seems to be enough. It’s not always apparent what is happening, but there is an organization in process that is surprising at times.

…what do we mean by the spiritual world? We mean the word of conscious intelligence. The Subjective is a world of Law and of mechanical order; in our lives, it is largely a reaction, an effect, a way. –Ernest Holmes

I like my house neat and clean and tidy; it makes me feel good. I like to eat well and exercise as a way of keeping order in my body; this makes me feel good, too. I like to make lists and set priorities, so that my business progresses in an orderly manner. I listen to my inner self and I know exactly what to do next. With orderliness, there is no confusion.

The Universe, both visible and invisible, is a Spiritual System. Man is a part of this spiritual Order, so indivisible united with It that the entire Cosmos is (or may be) reflected in his mind!

--Ernest Holmes

Every aspect of my life is an opportunity to create order. I create order in my health by exercising and by eating nourishing foods in appropriate portions. I create order by taking care of my house and making it a beautiful home. I create order in my work by making great art quilts, and keeping my studio organized so I know where everything is. I create order by communication with family and friends. Creating order for myself is healing for all.

Optimism is an outlook on life such that one maintains a view of the world as a positive place. It is the opposite of pessimism. Optimists generally believe that people and events are inherently good, so that most situations work out in the end for the best.—Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Today, I have faith, and I allow myself to believe in the best possible outcome for all of my endeavors. I know that only good is coming from everything I think, say and do. I am always moving in a positive direction in all of my relationships, personal and business. I am optimistic about my life and a bout the lives of all beings.

My opportunities are unlimited. There is a Divine urge to express….I have only to open the portals of my soul and accept that which is ready to express through me. Today I fling these portals wide; today I am the instrument through which life flows. Ernest Holmes

This day, I have opportunity. In this present moment, I center myself in Divine Love. I release the patterns of the past. I look into my heart space and I listen. My opportunity is right in front of me. I already have it. As I go forward, I take action. I let go of resistance and I seize the day! Opportunity exists in each and every moment of each and every day. Each moment, I practice taking the opportunity to act creatively, lovingly and peacefully.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

I know I am now at the threshold of all good, wisdom and Truth. All the good I can embody is now mine. I have only to open the portals of my soul and accept that which is ready to express through me.

–Ernest Holmes

Today, I open the door to peace and love. I am an artist, but my first job is loving me. The door is open and I am going through the door.

The man who clearly realizes his Oneness with all good should have strong, clear eyesight!

--Ernest Holmes

Oneness, the Unity of all life is peace, the end of suffering. It is understanding and communication connecting in integrity and wholeness. It is infinite balance, equality; the blending of all things into Universal Peace, World Peace, Life Itself. There is no separation, no war, no resistance, no beginning, and no end forever and ever in infinity, eternal light, eternal Life. Forgiving; Hearts and Hands, creating, building Bridges.

…in spirit, man is One with God. But what of the great Law of the Universe? If we are really One with the Whole, we must be One with the Law of the Whole, as well as One with the Spirit of the Whole. –Ernest Holmes

I am one with the Universe. I am a part of nature. I am one unique human being. There are billions of unique humans on this planet; at least it appears this way. But there is only One Life.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

We recognize, then, in man’s self-knowing mind his Unity with the whole, for a drop of water is not the ocean, yet it does contain within itself all the attributes of the limitless deep

—Ernest Holmes

The ocean is so huge and has seemingly infinite waves which are constantly changing all the time. It contains many fish and sea creatures, and perhaps unknown species. It is a world unto itself.

In my physical body there is only room for perfection, because that thought which is sustaining and nourishing my body is aware only of perfection, nothing can come into being except from the One Creative Mind, and nothing can flourish unless there is something to nourish it.

–Ernest Holmes

I nourish myself by eating healthy foods and by exercising my body, organizing my environment, spending time with loving people, walking in nature, reading spiritual books and practicing my creativity through making my artwork.

“The meek shall inherit the earth.” This is a teaching of non-resistance. War lords and plunderers of human possessions have come and gone. Kingdoms have risen only to crumble in dust and become numbered with past events….To whom have our artists turned for inspiration and that quickening power which enables them to depict the ideal? Not to the war lords, nor even the captains of industry, but to the meek.—Ernest Holmes

Today, I release all resistance to my good. I let go of any left over anger, sadness or worry. I let go of the past or the future. This day, I allow the present moment to fill me with the Love of God. I resist nothing. I allow my good to flow in me, through me and as me. By practicing nonresistance, I allow my life to unfold and I enjoy each moment. I’m going with the flow. I’m feeling the energy of the Universe. Things happen; good, bad, right, wrong—I release judgment and I stay centered, practicing moderation, and focusing on my goals. Nonresistance helps me stay in the flow and in the know!

“The life of letting go is the life of freedom, the life of nonattachment.” –Zoketsu Norman Fischer

There are so many things in life to think about—people, places, things; jobs to do, places to go, all of the stuff on the news—it can be frightening, stressful, nerve wracking. But to practice nonattachment is to know that each event will pass; it’s all temporary, and that none of it is good or bad, it just is. If I listen to my heart or to the still small voice; that is what is real.

Nature seems to await our comprehension of her and, since she is governed by immutable laws—the ignorance of which excuses no man from their effects—the bondage of humanity must be a result of our ignorance of the true nature of Reality. –Ernest Holmes

I am in touch with nature because I am part of nature just as the trees, the flowers, the water, the air and the animals are part of nature. I am an integral part of it all.

It is evident that the movement back of the objective world must be a subjective movement—a movement of consciousness. –Ernest Holmes

I experience movement as I go on and do the next thing and then the next thing. I move forward in my life, on my path. I also find the time to practice being still and to practice listening. This makes my movement much easier.
