"May Flower #5", 19"x22", 2007, $995

Hi, Everyone, This is "May Flower #5" on the same theme as the others, that of Loving You! Larry and I are going to the Sierras today for a few days. We have a little house in the mountains near Sonora. It's always nice to get away for a few days where it is totally quiet and the air is so fresh. I love walking up and down hills and getting my legs strong! It's another way of loving me.

Lots of Love, Therese

"May Flower #4", 19"x22", 2007, $995

"May Flower #4" Flowers are God's creatures that are allowed to open and unfold without interference. You don't need to open the petals with your hands; they do this naturally, by themselves. Your life also unfolds in this way. When you accept your life as it is right now; when you can enjoy the moment, that is a beautiful opening, like a flower.

Love and Blessings,

Today I gave the little guy a nice red border and then another fabric border just to finish it off! Enjoy!

"Little Guy with Animals All Around"

I have hundreds of small drawings that I have done over the years...I am beginning a new process of coloring all of them with marker pens. I am going to do some photo collages with them and then make them into prints for you to enjoy!

“HERE NOW”—24”X32”—2007--$2,000

This piece started with an 8.5”x11” sample for a class demonstration for machine appliqué. The cup is an everyday object that everyone recognizes and uses. I wanted to make a kimono shape, so I added more pieces to the sides and I made it longer by adding more strips to the bottom edge. The idea is very down to earth—I just wanted to play with the fabric and embellishment. As the piece grew and evolved, and I was having fun with paint, I began writing on the surface “here now here now here now”. Then I printed NOW at the opening of the cup.

I like to bring all of my ideas together by writing words on the surfaces of my quilts over and over again such as “One” or “Here” and “Now” or “Om Ma”, “Peace”, “Joy” and “Love”

Picture this: A big quilt with an image of the earth, with all of its green land and blue oceans and white clouds passing around it….Written over the entire surface:

Healthy wealthy wise healthy wealthy wise healthy wealth wise healthy wealthy wise healthy wealthy wise healthy wealthy wise healthy wealthy wise healthy wealthy wise

In this particular piece, I chose the word, “NOW” as my subject matter. I like the shapes of the letters and I was thinking about how they would look if they were floating in outer space, kind of like big monuments or monoliths. The braided rug pattern border and the hooked rug shape of the piece give the feeling of home. The “N” and the “W” of the word are both very open shaped letters which give a feeling of possibility and movement. The ”O” of the word is a closed shape, which gives a secure feeling of containment. In the “O”, I have placed a cup full of Love. We can only really have life right here and right now. We can only really love in the present moment.

In 1990 I made a series of six “Affirmation Quilts”, all 64”x64”, and each beginning with a central mandala square with buttons and embroidery in the middle. At the time I was studying to become a Religious Science Practitioner. I learned to use affirmations in my life and to reprogram my mind and think more positively. My intention for this series was to make beautiful quilts with affirmative titles. This piece, “Release”, is to inspire myself and others to release anything that is no longer needed.

An Affirmation Quilt, Machine appliqué, fabric, thread, acrylic paint, buttons and embroidery.

I made this piece for an exhibit which began at the Mobilia Gallery in Cambridge, MA and traveled throughout the US. I decided that I wanted to use as many techniques as I could think of. I embroidered, rubber stamped, painted, sewed buttons and made braids. I used all recycled fabrics and materials.
